As part of “TACHELES – Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony,” HELLERAU’s “Fragments of Life and Art” program series explores various facets of Jewish experience and artistic practice. The series takes as its starting point historical and artistic connections to HELLERAU that continue to influence the present. In a joint open studio, the artists-in-residence Amit & Tomer Abend, Anna Lublina & Raha Dehghani Vinicheh, and Dina Zaitev will offer a glimpse into their respective research projects.

Anna Lublina and Raha Dehghani Vinicheh
Anna Lublina and Raha Dehghani Vinicheh are jointly exploring rituals, ceremonies and protest as performative practices, and examining traditional cultural forms as a foundation for contemporary spirituality and aesthetics. Their residency project ‘Veltroyer’ is conceived as a performative mourning ritual drawing on traditional Jewish, Iranian and earth-centred practices. It serves to mourn the loss of non-human worlds and to create forms of collective memory and connectedness.
