Cirk La Putyka is a major name in the Czech contemporary circus scene. With “Runners,” HELLERAU presents a current production by the company that features an astonishing prop—a giant treadmill. As the performers present powerful choreography, live music, Cyr wheel stunts, and breathtaking acrobatics, they run nearly an entire marathon. Dance, artistry, and music come together to create a unique evening that questions our perception of time in a world where everything must be done in a hurry.
Biography
Cirk La Putyka is a theater company based in Prague (Czech Republic) that is professionally dedicated to contemporary circus. The company comprises almost a hundred actors, dancers, acrobats, musicians, production managers, technicians, doctors, make-up artists and other specialists. Over time, the group has developed its own style of contemporary circus theatre. Their work is cross-genre and multicultural; every project is completely different. The aim is to create unique, personal pieces in which the performers contribute something of themselves and their political views – whilst breaking down prejudices and entrenched boundaries. In 13 years, Cirk La Putyka has realised more than 30 projects, collaborated with over 300 people from 25 nations, performed more than 2,000 shows and toured 21 countries.
